AB436,1,2 1An Act to renumber 350.03; and to create 350.03 (2) of the statutes; relating
2to:
operation of snowmobiles in proximity to persons not on snowmobiles.
Analysis by the Legislative Reference Bureau
Under current law, a person who operates a snowmobile within 100 feet of a
person who is not on a snowmobile must slow the snowmobile down to a speed not
to exceed 10 miles per hour. This bill exempts a snowmobile operator who is on a
privately owned raceway facility or who is in a sanctioned race or derby being
conducted on public land, a highway or a snowmobile trail where the sponsor has
taken steps to keep spectators from entering the race area.
The people of the state of Wisconsin, represented in senate and assembly, do
enact as follows:
AB436, s. 1 3Section 1. 350.03 of the statutes is renumbered 350.03 (1).
AB436, s. 2 4Section 2. 350.03 (2) of the statutes is created to read:
AB436,1,55 350.03 (2) Subsection (1) does not apply to any of the following:
AB436,1,66 (a) The operator of a snowmobile on a privately owned raceway facility.
AB436,2,37 (b) The operator of a snowmobile in a sanctioned race or derby on public land,
8a highway or a snowmobile trail if the sponsor of the sanctioned race or derby takes

1steps to keep spectators from entering the area where the sanctioned race or derby
2is being conducted. In this paragraph, "public land" does not include the frozen
3surface of public waters.
