AB561,1,3 1An Act to amend 49.145 (3) (a) of the statutes; relating to: disregarding
2modifications to a vehicle to accommodate persons with disabilities from asset
3consideration under the Wisconsin works program.
Analysis by the Legislative Reference Bureau
Currently, under the Wisconsin works (W-2) program, a person must meet
certain financial and nonfinancial criteria to be eligible for W-2. The person may
not, for example, be part of a W-2 group that has assets that exceed $2,500 in value.
In determining the total equity value of assets, the W-2 agency must exclude the
equity value of vehicles up to a total equity value of $10,000 and one home that serves
as the homestead for the W-2 group.
This bill prohibits a W-2 agency from including in the calculation of the total
equity value of vehicles the value of any modifications made to a vehicle to
accommodate a person with a disability.
For further information see the state and local fiscal estimate, which will be
printed as an appendix to this bill.
The people of the state of Wisconsin, represented in senate and assembly, do
enact as follows:
AB561, s. 1 4Section 1. 49.145 (3) (a) of the statutes is amended to read:
AB561,2,7
149.145 (3) (a) Resource limitations. The individual is a member of a Wisconsin
2works group whose assets do not exceed $2,500 in combined equity value. In
3determining the combined equity value of assets, the Wisconsin works agency shall
4exclude the equity value of vehicles up to a total equity value of $10,000, and one
5home that serves as the homestead for the Wisconsin works group. In determining
6the equity value of the vehicles, the Wisconsin works agency may not consider any
7modifications made to any of the vehicles to accommodate a person with a disability.
