AB611,1,2 1An Act to create 174.02 (1) (c) of the statutes; relating to: liability for damages
2caused by dogs used to perform law enforcement functions.

Under current law, the owner of a dog is liable for damages caused by the dog
to a person, domestic animal or property. This bill provides that the owner of a police
dog is not liable for damages caused by the dog while it is performing law
enforcement functions.

The people of the state of Wisconsin, represented in senate and assembly, do
enact as follows:
AB611, s. 1 3Section 1. 174.02 (1) (c) of the statutes is created to read:
AB611,1,74 174.02 (1) (c) Police dogs. Notwithstanding pars. (a) and (b), the owner of a dog
5that is used by a law enforcement agency, as defined in s. 165.83 (1) (b), to perform
6law enforcement functions is not liable for damages caused by the dog while it is
7performing law enforcement functions.
