1997 - 1998 LEGISLATURE
January 13, 1998 - Introduced by Committee on Rules. Referred to Calendar.
AB711,1,3 1An Act to amend 20.525 (1) (gm), 25.40 (1) (a) 17. and 341.14 (6r) (bg) 3. b. of the
2statutes; relating to: proceeds from the sale of sesquicentennial
3commemorative registration plates and making an appropriation.
Analysis by the Legislative Reference Bureau
Under current law, the department of transportation (DOT) sells special license
plates commemorating this state's sesquicentennial anniversary of statehood.
Vehicle owners may purchase the plates for $15, in addition to the regular
registration fee, for display on their vehicles. After deducting its costs to produce and
distribute the plates, DOT deposits the net proceeds from the sale of these plates with
the sesquicentennial commission. The sesquicentennial commission uses the net
proceeds from the sale of the plates to plan and administer this state's
sesquicentennial celebration.
This bill requires DOT to deposit with the sesquicentennial commission $10
from the sale of each set of the commemorative plates, regardless of the cost to DOT
to produce and distribute the plates. The bill also requires the secretary of
transportation to determine the amount, if any, by which the sum of payments
already made by DOT to the sesquicentennial commission is less than $10 for each
set of the commemorative plates issued and to pay that amount, if any, to the
commission.
The people of the state of Wisconsin, represented in senate and assembly, do
enact as follows:
