AB913,1,2 1An Act to renumber and amend 29.22 (2); and to create 29.22 (2) (a) and 29.22
2(2) (c) of the statutes; relating to: visibility of clothing worn while hunting.

Under current law, during the season for hunting deer using firearms, no
person may hunt any game except waterfowl without at least 50% of his or her outer
clothing above the waist being colored blaze orange. Under this bill, a person
hunting deer with a bow and arrow during deer bow hunting season may wear
clothing that has a blaze orange area at least 100 square inches in size and that is
either a cap or similar headgear or that is visible from any angle or he or she may
wear clothing that meets the 50% requirement.

The people of the state of Wisconsin, represented in senate and assembly, do
enact as follows:
AB913, s. 1 3Section 1. 29.22 (2) of the statutes is renumbered 29.22 (2) (b) and amended
4to read:
AB913,2,35 29.22 (2) (b) In the areas in which there is a season for the hunting of deer with
6firearms, no person may hunt any game except waterfowl during the season for the

1hunting of deer with firearms unless at least 50% of the person's outer clothing above
2the waist is of a highly visible color commonly referred to as hunter orange, blaze
3orange, fluorescent orange, flame orange or fluorescent blaze orange
.
AB913,2,5 4(d) Any person violating this subsection is subject to a forfeiture of not more
5than $10.
AB913, s. 2 6Section 2. 29.22 (2) (a) of the statutes is created to read:
AB913,2,97 29.22 (2) (a) In this subsection, "highly visible color" means a color commonly
8referred to as hunter orange, blaze orange, fluorescent orange, flame orange or
9fluorescent blaze orange.
AB913, s. 3 10Section 3. 29.22 (2) (c) of the statutes is created to read:
AB913,2,1311 29.22 (2) (c) In the areas in which there is a season for the hunting of deer with
12a bow and arrow, no person may hunt deer during the open season for the hunting
13of deer with bows and firearms unless any of the following applies:
AB913,2,1514 1. The person is wearing a cap, hat or similar headgear that is at least 100
15square inches in size and is of a highly visible color.
AB913,2,1716 2. At least 100 square inches of the person's outer clothing above the waist is
17of a highly visible color and can be seen from any angle.
AB913,2,1818 3. The person's outer clothing complies with par. (a).
