AJR103,1,32 Whereas, African-Americans have both maintained a rich distinctive culture
3and have made major contributions to American culture in general; and
AJR103,1,74 Whereas, through the contributions of such African-Americans as the
5Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., El-Hajj Malik El-Shabbazz, Shirley
6Chisholm and Reverend Jesse Jackson, America's views of itself and of the world
7have grown to incorporate new ideas and directions; and
AJR103,1,118 Whereas, through the contributions of African-American musicians and
9writers; such as Louis Armstrong, Count Basie, Duke Ellington, Leontyne Price,
10Andre Watts, James Baldwin, Richard Wright and Toni Morrison; the American
11culture has been enriched and appreciated around the world; and
AJR103,1,1412 Whereas, African-American sports figures, such as Reggie White of the Green
13Bay Packers, have demonstrated their ability to be not only role models for their
14teams, but also role models off the field for the state and the nation; and

1Whereas, African-Americans have kept alive and derived pride and unity from
2other aspects of their cultural traditions; now, therefore, be it
AJR103,2,6 3Resolved by the assembly, the senate concurring, That the members of the
4Wisconsin legislature commend African-Americans for their cultural achievements
5and recognize the value of those achievements to African-Americans and to other
6Americans; and, be it further
AJR103,2,9 7Resolved, That in order to encourage everyone in this state to recognize and
8salute the richness of African-American culture, the members of the Wisconsin
9legislature declare February "African-American Cultural Heritage Month".
