AJR107,1,2 1Relating to: commending State Auditor Dale Cattanach on the occasion of his
2retirement.
AJR107,1,63 Whereas, Dale Cattanach began his career in public service as the first director
4of the Legislative Fiscal Bureau, serving from 1963 to 1977 and establishing the
5bureau as a nonpartisan source of fiscal and program information and analyses for
6the Wisconsin legislature and in particular the Joint Committee on Finance; and
AJR107,1,87 Whereas, he was appointed secretary of the Wisconsin Department of
8Transportation and served in that position with distinction from 1977 to 1979; and
AJR107,1,149 Whereas, he became state auditor on January 1, 1979, and has led this
10nonpartisan service agency for the past 19 years, creating a highly respected bureau
11that consistently provides the legislature, and in particular the Joint Legislative
12Audit Committee, with assurances that financial transactions and program
13management decisions are made effectively, efficiently and in compliance with state
14law and that state agencies carry out the policies of the legislature and governor; and

1Whereas, his abilities have been recognized nationally and reflected in his
2many years of service to the National Conference of State Legislatures in various
3capacities; including serving as staff chair, its highest legislative staff position;
4serving as secretary-treasurer of the Foundation for State Legislatures and serving
5on the Governmental Accounting Advisory Council; and
AJR107,2,106 Whereas, his public service has won him numerous awards and honors,
7including the Lifetime Achievement Award in Program Evaluation given by the
8National Conference of State Legislatures and the Public Administrator of the Year
9award from the Wisconsin Capital Chapter of the American Society for Public
10Administration; and
AJR107,2,1211 Whereas, his compassion for others is recognized by his countless hours of
12volunteer work for various organizations in the state; and
AJR107,2,1513 Whereas, he has been a trusted source of information for legislators, others in
14state government and the public because of his devotion to the highest standards of
15public service, his common sense, his intellect and his hard work; and
AJR107,2,1816 Whereas, his integrity, strength of character, dedication to public service and
17outstanding service to the legislative branch of Wisconsin government embody the
18ideal of public service; and
AJR107,2,2019 Whereas, Dale Cattanach will retire from public service on February 28, 1998;
20now, therefore, be it
AJR107,2,25 21Resolved by the assembly, the senate concurring, That the members of the
22Wisconsin legislature congratulate Dale Cattanach on his almost 35 years of
23outstanding public service, commend the distinguished service that he has rendered
24to them and to the citizens of the state and extend to him their best wishes for his
25continued success and a long and happy retirement; and, be it further

1Resolved, That the assembly chief clerk shall provide a copy of this joint
2resolution to Dale Cattanach.
