AJR119,1,32 Whereas, among the ethnic groups that have helped to form this state are the
3Czechs; and
AJR119,1,54 Whereas, the Czechs have remembered and preserved their rich cultural
5heritage while they assimilated themselves to life in Wisconsin; and
AJR119,1,76 Whereas, among the centers of Czech culture in this state are Hillsboro and
7Yuba; and
AJR119,1,98 Whereas, in 1983 the first Cesky Den (Czech Day) celebration was held to
9promote the Czech heritage; and
AJR119,1,1010 Whereas, Cesky Den has been celebrated each year since 1983; and
AJR119,1,1411 Whereas, among the features of that celebration are polka music; the
12enjoyment of such traditional Czech foods as roast pork, dumplings, sauerkraut,
13rohlike, jiternice, suleke soup and kolaches; a polka mass; various contests; the
14wearing of authentic Czech costumes; and the creation of a special button; and

1Whereas, the next celebration of Cesky Den is on June 13, 1998; now, therefore,

AJR119,2,6 3Resolved by the assembly, the senate concurring, That the members of the
4Wisconsin legislature proclaim June 13, 1998, Cesky Den and encourage
5Wisconsinites to spend that day in Hillsboro or Yuba helping to celebrate Wisconsin's
6Czech heritage and enjoying themselves.
