AJR121,1,53 Whereas, the 1998 United States Women's Olympic Hockey Team won the Gold
4Medal on February 17, 1998, competing in the first-ever Women's hockey event in
5the Winter Olympics, which were held at Nagano, Japan; and
AJR121,1,86 Whereas, Ms. Karyn Bye, a forward for the team, is the alternate captain of the
7Gold-Medal winning Olympic team and a 5-time member of the United States
8Women's National Hockey Team; and
AJR121,1,129 Whereas, Karyn Bye, who played in all 6 Olympic games for the United States,
10led the team with 5 goals and 3 assists and was a chief contributor to the team going
11undefeated throughout Olympic play and beating Canada 3 to 1 in the final game for
12the Gold Medal; and

1Whereas, Ms. Bye's dedication to the sport of hockey has helped pave the way
2for young women to participate in the sport and has earned her numerous awards
3throughout her career, including being named 1995 USA Hockey Women's Player of
4the Year; and
AJR121,2,75 Whereas, Karyn, a River Falls native, achieved her Olympic dream with the
6support of her parents, Chuck and Dotty Bye, her siblings, Chris and Kjellrun, and
7her many friends and supporters; and
AJR121,2,108 Whereas, the River Falls community and the state of Wisconsin are proud of
9Karyn's fine example of excellence in both athletics and character; now, therefore, be

AJR121,2,16 11Resolved by the assembly, the senate concurring, That the Wisconsin
12legislature congratulates the 1998 United States Women's Olympic Hockey Team
13and Ms. Karyn Bye for their remarkable achievement of winning a Gold Medal while
14representing the United States and Wisconsin in the 1998 Winter Olympics at
15Nagano, Japan, and wish them continued success in their every endeavor, on and off
16the ice; and, be it further
AJR121,2,19 17Resolved, That the assembly chief clerk shall provide copies of this joint
18resolution to Karyn Bye and all of the other members of the 1998 United States
19Women's Olympic Hockey Team.
