AJR121,1,2 Relating to: commending Ms. Karyn Bye and the United States Women's Olympic Hockey Team.

AJR121,1,5 Whereas, the 1998 United States Women's Olympic Hockey Team won the Gold Medal on February 17, 1998, competing in the first-ever Women's hockey event in the Winter Olympics, which were held at Nagano, Japan; and

AJR121,1,8 Whereas, Ms. Karyn Bye, a forward for the team, is the alternate captain of the Gold-Medal winning Olympic team and a 5-time member of the United States Women's National Hockey Team; and

AJR121,1,12 Whereas, Karyn Bye, who played in all 6 Olympic games for the United States, led the team with 5 goals and 3 assists and was a chief contributor to the team going undefeated throughout Olympic play and beating Canada 3 to 1 in the final game for the Gold Medal; and

AJR121,2,4 Whereas, Ms. Bye's dedication to the sport of hockey has helped pave the way for young women to participate in the sport and has earned her numerous awards throughout her career, including being named 1995 USA Hockey Women's Player of the Year; and

AJR121,2,7 Whereas, Karyn, a River Falls native, achieved her Olympic dream with the support of her parents, Chuck and Dotty Bye, her siblings, Chris and Kjellrun, and her many friends and supporters; and

AJR121,2,10 Whereas, the River Falls community and the state of Wisconsin are proud of Karyn's fine example of excellence in both athletics and character; now, therefore, be it

AJR121,2,16 Resolved by the assembly, the senate concurring, That the Wisconsin legislature congratulates the 1998 United States Women's Olympic Hockey Team and Ms. Karyn Bye for their remarkable achievement of winning a Gold Medal while representing the United States and Wisconsin in the 1998 Winter Olympics at Nagano, Japan, and wish them continued success in their every endeavor, on and off the ice; and, be it further

AJR121,2,19 Resolved, That the assembly chief clerk shall provide copies of this joint resolution to Karyn Bye and all of the other members of the 1998 United States Women's Olympic Hockey Team.
