AJR123,1,32 Whereas, Raymond Nitschke was drafted in the 3rd round by the Green Bay
3Packers in 1958 from the University of Illinois; and
AJR123,1,64 Whereas, Ray Nitschke was the defensive cornerstone of the 1960's Green Bay
5Packers, igniting a fire in his teammates and gaining tremendous respect for his
6outstanding leadership and talents as a linebacker; and
AJR123,1,107 Whereas, Ray Nitschke is recognized as one of the best to ever play football,
8helping the Packers to win 5 National Football League titles, including the first 2
9superbowls, and was named to the NFL's All-50th Year and All-75th Year teams;

AJR123,1,1411 Whereas, the great Packer middle linebacker is one of the main reasons why
12the NFC's Central Division is known as the Black and Blue Division and was elected
13to the NFL Hall of Fame in 1978, a distinction earned through dedication and a love
14for the game even past his retirement in 1972; and

1Whereas, Ray Nitschke will be forever linked with the legendary names of the
2Green Bay Packers, and Packers fans in Wisconsin and the world over will always
3love him as a favorite son; and

5death by his wife, Jackie, will be forever missed; now, therefore, be it
AJR123,2,9 6Resolved by the assembly, the senate concurring, That the Wisconsin
7legislature honors the life of Ray Nitschke, a kind-hearted man whose achievements
8on the football field reflected an intelligent strength and courage and whose persona
9off the field was both warm and genuine to the fans who embraced him.
