AJR123,1,1 Relating to: honoring the life of Ray Nitschke

AJR123,1,3 Whereas, Raymond Nitschke was drafted in the 3rd round by the Green Bay Packers in 1958 from the University of Illinois; and

AJR123,1,6 Whereas, Ray Nitschke was the defensive cornerstone of the 1960's Green Bay Packers, igniting a fire in his teammates and gaining tremendous respect for his outstanding leadership and talents as a linebacker; and

AJR123,1,10 Whereas, Ray Nitschke is recognized as one of the best to ever play football, helping the Packers to win 5 National Football League titles, including the first 2 superbowls, and was named to the NFL's All-50th Year and All-75th Year teams; and

AJR123,1,14 Whereas, the great Packer middle linebacker is one of the main reasons why the NFC's Central Division is known as the Black and Blue Division and was elected to the NFL Hall of Fame in 1978, a distinction earned through dedication and a love for the game even past his retirement in 1972; and

AJR123,2,3 Whereas, Ray Nitschke will be forever linked with the legendary names of the Green Bay Packers, and Packers fans in Wisconsin and the world over will always love him as a favorite son; and

AJR123,2,5 Whereas, Ray Nitschke; father, grandfather and football player; preceded in death by his wife, Jackie, will be forever missed; now, therefore, be it

AJR123,2,9 Resolved by the assembly, the senate concurring, That the Wisconsin legislature honors the life of Ray Nitschke, a kind-hearted man whose achievements on the football field reflected an intelligent strength and courage and whose persona off the field was both warm and genuine to the fans who embraced him.
