AJR129,1,42 Whereas, Richard A. Weinke, a peace officer in Sauk County and a member of
3the United States Marine Reserves, was killed in the line of duty on April 5, 1998;
4and
AJR129,1,65 Whereas, Richard was born at Camp LeJeune, North Carolina on July 1, 1973,
6and graduated in 1991 from Reedsburg Webb High School; and
AJR129,1,97 Whereas, Richard entered the United States Marine Corps in 1992 and was a
8member of the United States Marine Reserves at the time of his death, holding the
9rank of sergeant; and
AJR129,1,1310 Whereas, Richard was a graduate of Madison Area Technical College, where he
11earned a degree in Police Science in November 1996 and graduated with awards for
12Top Grade Point Average, Top Shooter and Top Notebook and was elected Sergeant
13at Arms of his police science class; and

1Whereas, Richard began his career in law enforcement in May 1994 with the
2Sauk County Sheriff's Department as a jailer and was promoted in August 1997 to
3the position of patrol officer; and
AJR129,2,74 Whereas, Richard is survived by his wife, Julie, whom he married on August
522, 1997; and 8-year-old daughter, Jade Weinke; a 3-year-old son, Brandon
6Weinke; his parents, Harold and Carol Weinke; and his sister, Dawn Thompson; now,
7therefore, be it
AJR129,2,11 8Resolved by the assembly, the senate concurring, That the members of the
9Wisconsin legislature commemorate the life and public service and mourn the death
10of Richard A. Weinke and extend their sympathy to his family, colleagues and many
11friends, who will miss him dearly; and, be it further
AJR129,2,15 12Resolved, That the assembly chief clerk shall provide copies of this joint
13resolution to his parents; Harold and Carol; his wife, Julie; his children, Jade and
14Brandon; his sister, Dawn; and the Sauk County Sheriff's Department, in order to
15display a copy in a fitting manner at the Sauk County Courthouse.
