Whereas, John H. Schroeder served as the 5th chancellor of the University of
3Wisconsin-Milwaukee; and

Whereas, UW-Milwaukee achieved national recognition as a Carnegie
5Research II institution under his leadership; and

Whereas, Chancellor Schroeder was in the forefront of legislative activity,
7advocating on behalf of the university and working closely with legislators to assure
8state support of UW-Milwaukee and the entire University of Wisconsin System; and

Whereas, UW-Milwaukee has enriched the undergraduate experience by
10expanding and strengthening its Honors Program and developing new initiatives
11such as Freshman Scholars; now, therefore, be it

12Resolved by the assembly, the senate concurring, That the members of the
13legislature of the state of Wisconsin commend John Schroeder for his fulfillment of
14the Wisconsin Idea at UW-Milwaukee and his commitment to the students and
1community residents who are benefactors of Wisconsin's fine tradition of quality
2public higher education; and, be if further
