AJR48,1,1 1Relating to: recognizing the importance of the Kettle Moraine.
AJR48,1,32 Whereas, the Wisconsin Glacier created a landscape of glacial features in
3Wisconsin in concentrations found nowhere else on earth; and
AJR48,1,64 Whereas, one of the most spectacular concentrations of these glacial features
5is found in the Kettle Moraine area of Fond du Lac, Sheboygan, Washington,
6Waukesha and Walworth counties; and
AJR48,1,97 Whereas, the state of Wisconsin began in the 1930's acquiring the lands of the
8Kettle Moraine, replanting its forests, taking care to protect its glacial features, and
9managing the lands for perpetuity as the Kettle Moraine State Forest; and
AJR48,1,1110 Whereas, the need to protect the Kettle Moraine in Washington and Waukesha
11counties has never been greater, due to urban development; and
AJR48,1,1512 Whereas, the Kettle Moraine Task Force of the Wisconsin Academy of Sciences,
13Arts and Letters, the Ice Age Park and Trail Foundation and the Southeastern
14Wisconsin Regional Planning Commission have all recommended that the Kettle
15Moraine be protected as an environmental corridor; now, therefore, be it
AJR48,2,3 16Resolved by the assembly, the senate concurring, That the Wisconsin
17legislature recognizes the importance of the Kettle Moraine State Forest in

1protecting the features of our glacial landscape, providing open space and
2recreational opportunity and maintaining and enhancing natural communities; and,
3be it further
AJR48,2,8 4Resolved, That the Wisconsin legislature encourages the efforts of the
5Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, in cooperation with private citizens,
6conservation organizations and local governments, to protect the Kettle Moraine
7lands linking the Northern and Southern units of the Kettle Moraine State Forest
8and provide for a route of the Ice Age Trail.
