2National Cheese Exchange price in determining the basic formula price for
3manufacturing milk.
AJR5,1,64 Whereas, the current federal basic formula price for manufacturing milk is
5greatly influenced by the National Cheese Exchange price for block and barrel
6cheddar cheese; and
AJR5,1,87 Whereas, the National Cheese Exchange price results from trading that
8represents less than 2% of all bulk cheddar cheese sold nationally; and
AJR5,1,109 Whereas, the National Cheese Exchange was never intended to be an indicator
10of national supply of and demand for milk; and
AJR5,1,1211 Whereas, there are other measures that have the potential to be more reliable
12indicators of market supply of and demand for milk; now, therefore, be it
AJR5,2,2 13Resolved by the assembly, the senate concurring, That the members of the
14Wisconsin legislature urge the U.S. Department of Agriculture, and Secretary
15Daniel Glickman, to cease using the market activities of the National Cheese
16Exchange in determining the basic formula price for manufacturing milk and to

1instead establish a broad-based formula that more accurately represents market
2conditions for milk in establishing the basic formula price; and, be it further
AJR5,2,5 3Resolved, That the assembly chief clerk shall provide copies of this joint
4resolution to Secretary Glickman and to each member of this state's congressional
5delegation.
