Analysis by the Legislative Reference Bureau
Current law authorizes the erection of highway signs indicating the location of
nearby businesses that provide services of interest to the travelling public, including
gas, food, lodging and camping. To qualify for display on such a sign, a business
offering food, in addition to meeting other requirements, must be in regular
operation at least 5 days a week, opening for business no later than 10 a.m. and
remaining open until at least 7 p.m.
Under this bill, a supper club may be displayed on such signs even if the supper
club is not open for business from at least 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. All other eligibility
requirements continue to apply to supper clubs.
For further information see the state fiscal estimate, which will be printed as
an appendix to this bill.
