SJR23,1,2 1Relating to: commemorating the deaths of 3 U.S. air force reservists from the
2Milwaukee area.
SJR23,1,53 Whereas, on April 1, 1997, a U.S. air force reserve cargo plane crashed in
4Honduras, and of the 10 persons who were on that plane, 7 were injured and 3 died;
5and
SJR23,1,76 Whereas, that aircraft was based at Mitchell Field in Milwaukee, and 8 of the
710 persons on it were residents of Wisconsin; and
SJR23,1,108 Whereas, the 3 reservists who died were Senior Master Sergeant Leland
9Rassmussen of Greenfield, Staff Sergeant Vicki Clifton of Oak Creek and Senior
10Airman Samuel Keene of Milwaukee; and
SJR23,1,1411 Whereas, the fact that 3 residents of Wisconsin died, and 7 other persons were
12injured, during a U.S. air force reserve mission should remind us all that, while
13serving their nation and their states, reservists on occasion courageously face danger
14and even death; and
SJR23,1,1615 Whereas, this tragedy should lead to increased appreciation of, and
16commitment to, our reservists; now, therefore, be it

1Resolved by the senate, the assembly concurring, That the members of the
2Wisconsin legislature express their sorrow over the deaths of Senior Master
3Sergeant Leland Rassmussen, Staff Sergeant Vicki Clifton and Senior Airman
4Samuel Keene; extend their condolences to those reservists' families, including their
5440 Airlift Wing family; express their hope that the injured members of the crew
6recover quickly and completely; and recognize the benefits that the reservists on that
7flight and all other reservists have provided to this nation; and, be it further
SJR23,2,10 8Resolved, That the senate chief clerk shall provide copies of this joint
9resolution to the families of the 3 reservists who died in the line of duty and to the
107 injured reservists.
