SJR35,1,1 1Relating to: the life and public service of Ruth Radatz.
SJR35,1,32 Whereas, Ruth Radatz was born in Mellen on August 6, 1921, and died in
3Kenosha on November 2, 1997; and
SJR35,1,54 Whereas, Ms. Radatz attended Kenosha schools and graduated from Kenosha
5High School; and
SJR35,1,76 Whereas, she became a Kenosha alderman in 1964 and later became the first
7woman to serve as president of the Kenosha City Council; and
SJR35,1,98 Whereas, she served as Kenosha County Treasurer from 1972 until 1986 and
9as a member of the Kenosha Unified School Board from 1986 until 1989; and
SJR35,1,1110 Whereas, Governor Lucey appointed her to be the chairperson of the Wisconsin
11Mass Transportation Task Force; and
SJR35,1,1412 Whereas, she brought to the public positions in which she served a rare
13combination of technical competence, compassion and political acumen; now
14therefore, be it

1Resolved by the senate, the assembly concurring, That the members of the
2Wisconsin legislature recognize the decades of devoted and effective public service
3that Ruth Radatz gave to the residents of the Kenosha area, express their sorrow at
4her death and extend their condolences to her family and friends; and, be it further
SJR35,2,7 5Resolved, That the senate chief clerk shall provide copies of this joint
6resolution to Ruth Radatz' son, Clark; her brother, Charles Blaim; and her sister,
7Inez Lehman.
