SJR6,1,42 Whereas, the Green Bay Packers defeated the New England Patriots 35-21 on
3Sunday, January 26, 1997, at New Orleans in the Super Bowl, football's most
4prestigious contest; and
SJR6,1,75 Whereas, the Super Bowl victory established the Packers as champions of the
6world and completed their brilliant National Football League season with a 16-3
7record; and
SJR6,1,108 Whereas, the 1996-97 Packers restored a sense of excitement and pride that
9football fans in Wisconsin have faithfully awaited since the great Lombardi Era of
10the 1960s; and
SJR6,1,1211 Whereas, the Packers gathered legions of loyal and exuberant fans throughout
12the country, giving them the right to claim the popular title of "America's Team"; and
SJR6,1,1513 Whereas, the Packers' successful travels helped spread the word about
14Wisconsin's many fine traditions, its products and its quality of life; now, therefore,

SJR6,2,2 16Resolved by the senate, the assembly concurring, That the members of the
17legislature of the state of Wisconsin express their appreciation and congratulations

1to the Green Bay Packers' players, coaches and staff and to Packer fans, who have
2forged a unique bond with their team; and, be it further
SJR6,2,6 3Resolved, That the senate chief clerk shall provide a copy of this joint
4resolution to the Packers' President Bob Harlan, the mayor of Green Bay, the Brown
5County executive, General Manager Ron Wolf, Coach Mike Holmgren and his
6assistants and each Packer player.
