AB117,1,3 1An Act relating to: funding and positions for consumer protection activities
2relating to the year 2000 readiness of electronic computing devices and making
3an appropriation.

This bill increases the appropriation to the department of agriculture, trade
and consumer protection (DATCP) for general program operations related to food
safety and consumer protection. The bill authorizes DATCP to increase a position,
and provides funding for that position and for other costs associated with
administering and enforcing consumer protection activities relating to the year 2000
readiness of electronic computing devices.

The people of the state of Wisconsin, represented in senate and assembly, do
enact as follows:
AB117, s. 1 4Section 1 . Appropriation changes.
AB117,2,75 (1) Year 2000 consumer protectionfiscal year 1998-99. In the schedule under
6section 20.005 (3) of the statutes for the appropriation to the department of

1agriculture, trade and consumer protection under section 20.115 (1) (a) of the
2statutes, as affected by the acts of 1997, the dollar amount is increased by $58,419
3for fiscal year 1998-99 to increase the authorized FTE positions for the department
4by 1.0 GPR project position for the period ending June 30, 2001, to fund LTE positions
5and to purchase necessary materials, supplies and equipment, all for the purpose of
6administering and enforcing consumer protection activities relating to the year 2000
7readiness of electronic computing devices.
AB117,2,168 (2) Year 2000 consumer protectionfiscal years 1999-00 and 2000-01. In the
9schedule under section 20.005 (3) of the statutes for the appropriation to the
10department of agriculture, trade and consumer protection under section 20.115 (1)
11(a) of the statutes, as affected by the acts of 1999, the dollar amount is increased by
12$134,931 for fiscal year 1999-00 and the dollar amount is increased by $41,588 for
13fiscal year 2000-01 to fund LTE positions in fiscal year 1999-00 and to purchase
14necessary materials, supplies and equipment for fiscal years 1999-00 and 2000-01,
15for the purpose of administering and enforcing consumer protection activities
16relating to the year 2000 readiness of electronic computing devices.
AB117, s. 2 17Section 2. Effective dates. This act takes effect on the day after publication,
18except as follows:
AB117,2,2019 (1) The treatment of Section 1 (2) of this act takes effect on the day after
20publication of the 2001-03 biennial budget act.
