to create 29.014 (1m) of the statutes;

2to: open season for the fishing of bass.

Under current law, the department of natural resource may establish different
fishing seasons for different types of fish, and the seasons may vary throughout the
state. Under this bill any fishing season established for bass must be the same
throughout the state.

The people of the state of Wisconsin, represented in senate and assembly, do
enact as follows:

1. 29.014 (1) of the statutes is amended to read:

(1) The department shall establish and maintain open and closed
5seasons for fish and game
, subject to sub. (1m), and any bag limits, size limits, rest
6days and
other conditions governing the taking of fish and game that will conserve
7the fish and game supply and ensure the citizens of this state continued
8opportunities for good fishing, hunting and trapping.

2. 29.014 (1m) of the statutes is created to read:

(1m) Any open or closed season established by the department for any
3type of bass under sub. (1) shall be the same throughout the state.

(1) If, during the period of time beginning on the effective date of this subsection
6and ending on the effective date of any modifications to the open and closed seasons
7for bass promulgated by the department of natural resources for the purpose of
8compliance with section 29.014 (1m) of the statutes, as created by this act, the
9department has in effect an open season for any type of bass that applies to only part
10of the state, that open season shall apply throughout the state.

The treatment of section 29.014 (1m) of the statutes takes effect on the first
13day of the 10th month beginning after publication.
