1An Act to amend 45.04 (2) and 45.35 (5) (e) 7. of the statutes;
relating to:
2Vietnam veteran eligibility for veterans benefits.
Analysis by the Legislative Reference Bureau
Current law provides various benefits for veterans who have served in the
armed forces during specified war periods or who have received certain medals
evidencing service during a specific period of time. Under current law, the Vietnam
war period is defined as between August 5, 1964, and January 1, 1977, for purposes
of eligibility for loans under the veteran's housing loan program, for setting priorities
for the loans under that program and for eligibility under the veterans trust fund
stabilization loan program. The Vietnam war period is defined as between August
5, 1964, and July 1, 1975, in current law regarding the grant program for a memorial
for Vietnam veterans and for veterans benefits other than those listed above,
including the veterans rehabilitation program, the correspondence courses and
part-time classroom study program and the veteran retraining grant program. This
bill makes the dates of the Vietnam war period the same, between August 5, 1964,
and January 1, 1977, for purposes of eligibility for veterans benefits.

The people of the state of Wisconsin, represented in senate and assembly, do
enact as follows:

1. 45.04 (2) of the statutes is amended to read:

(2) Grant program. From the appropriation under s. 20.485 (2) (e), the
3secretary shall award to eligible applicants grants to support the acquisition of land
4and construction of not more than 2 memorials in this state to honor state veterans
5who served in the U.S. armed forces. One memorial may be constructed to honor
6state veterans who served during the Korean conflict, June 27, 1950, to January 31,
71955, and one to honor state veterans who served during the Vietnam war, August
85, 1964, to
June 30, 1975 January 1, 1977.
