Analysis by the Legislative Reference Bureau
Current law prohibits a school district from starting the school term before
September 1 unless in that school year the school board holds a public hearing and
adopts a resolution approving an earlier starting date. This bill provides that the
school board may hold the public hearing and adopt the resolution in the calendar
year in which the earlier starting date falls.
For further information see the local fiscal estimate, which will be printed as
an appendix to this bill.
