AB721,1,2 1An Act relating to: assistant district attorney positions and making an
2appropriation.
Analysis by the Legislative Reference Bureau
Under current law, the state, through the department of administration (DOA),
pays for the salaries and various benefits for district attorneys, deputy district
attorneys, assistant district attorneys and other state employes of the district
attorney's office. This bill increases the number of assistant district attorney
positions by five and directs DOA to determine, in consultation with the Wisconsin
District Attorneys' Association, the counties to which the five new positions will be
allocated.

The people of the state of Wisconsin, represented in senate and assembly, do
enact as follows:
AB721, s. 1 3Section 1. Appropriation changes.
AB721,2,94 (1) Additional assistant district attorney positions. In the schedule under
5section 20.005 (3) of the statutes for the appropriation to the department of
6administration under section 20.475 (1) (d) of the statutes, as affected by the acts of

11999, the dollar amount is increased by $59,900 for fiscal year 1999-00 and the dollar
2amount is increased by $239,500 for fiscal year 2000-01 to increase the authorized
3FTE positions for the department of administration by 5.0 GPR positions on the
4effective date of this subsection for the purpose of providing additional assistant
5district attorneys. The department of administration shall determine the counties
6to which the positions shall be allocated. In determining where the positions shall
7be allocated, the department of administration shall consult with the Wisconsin
8District Attorneys' Association and shall consider the recommendation of the
9Wisconsin District Attorneys' Association.
