AJR80,1,43 Whereas, David Stute will retire as director of the Legislative Council Staff on
4October 15, 1999; and
AJR80,1,7 5Whereas, David Stute has served the state of Wisconsin for 31 years at the
6Legislative Council Staff and 23 years in a supervisory role as director or chief staff
7attorney; and
AJR80,1,108 Whereas, David Stute has functioned as a mentor for Legislative Council Staff
9attorneys on complex and controversial legal issues coming before the Legislature;
10and
AJR80,1,1411 Whereas, David Stute has edited numerous Legislative Council Staff
12publications over the years, using unmatched reasoning ability and attention to
13detail to help keep Legislative Council Staff publications accurate and well written;

1Whereas, David Stute has helped many legislators develop legislative solutions
2to difficult policy problems; and
AJR80,2,83 Whereas, David Stute has been instrumental in developing major legislation,
4such as the Wisconsin Consumer Act, which was landmark legislation protecting
5Wisconsin consumers in their dealing with creditors; chapter 33 of the statutes
6authorizing the formation of lake districts to protect inland lakes; the State Clean
7Water Act, regulating the discharge of hazardous substances into the waters of
8Wisconsin; and state environmental laws regulating mining; and
AJR80,2,129 Whereas, David Stute has been a great friend and fair minded confidant to
10members of the legislature since 1968, and has led the Legislative Council Staff with
11dignity, exemplary character, and utmost professionalism in that time; now,
12therefore, be it
AJR80,2,16 13Resolved by the assembly, the senate concurring, That the members of the
14Wisconsin legislature commend David Stute on his career, accomplishments, and
15contributions to the State of Wisconsin and wish him the best upon his retirement;
16and, be it further
AJR80,2,18 17Resolved, That the assembly chief clerk shall provide copies of this joint
18resolution to David Stute.
