AR43,1,2 1Relating to: commending Assembly Chief Clerk Charles R. Sanders on his
2distinguished career of 30 years of service to the members of the assembly.
AR43,1,43 Whereas, the Honorable Charles R. Sanders, chief clerk of the Wisconsin state
4assembly, has been a dedicated employe of the assembly since January 7, 1971; and
AR43,1,85 Whereas, Charlie has faithfully and enthusiastically discharged his
6responsibilities as chief clerk of the Wisconsin state assembly, being first elected to
7that position on May 24, 1995, succeeding his good friend and mentor, the late Tom
8Melvin; and
AR43,1,119 Whereas, while Charlie was a student at the University of Wisconsin-Madison,
10he began his legislative career as a messenger in the assembly chief clerk's office and
11became the assistant chief clerk in 1987; and
AR43,1,1312 Whereas, Charlie's tenure in the assembly encompasses 15 full legislative
13sessions under the direction of 8 assembly speakers; and
AR43,2,214 Whereas, along with Charlie's commitment to the assembly and the office of
15chief clerk, he served for many years as a member of the American Society of

1Legislative Clerks and Secretaries, including chairmanship of the
2Canadian-American Relations Committee; and
AR43,2,53 Whereas, one of Charlie's favorite duties as chief clerk is assisting the 99
4members of the assembly in making the transition to elected public office and
5advising them on the operations of the legislature; and
AR43,2,86 Whereas, Charlie Sanders has chosen to retire from public service on January
73, 2001, and to begin a 2nd career as a fly fisherman and assistant to his wife,
8Barbara Budig, in her antique business; and
AR43,2,119 Whereas, Charlie will be missed by members of the assembly, staff, colleagues,
10agency personnel and the general public who relied on him for guidance and
11information; now, therefore, be it
AR43,2,15 12Resolved by the assembly,That the members of the assembly of the state of
13Wisconsin congratulate Charles R. Sanders on his 30 years of service, commend him
14on his distinguished career and wish him the best of everything upon his retirement;
15and, be it further
AR43,2,17 16Resolved, That the assembly chief clerk shall transmit a copy of this resolution
17to himself.
