SJR27,1,2 1Relating to: commending past and present members of the United States Marine
2Corps on the 224th Birthday of the Corps.
SJR27,1,53 Whereas, on November 10, 1775, the Continental Congress meeting in
4Philadelphia passed a resolution that "two battalions of Marines be raised" for
5service as landing forces with the fleet; and
SJR27,1,86 Whereas, the resolution passed by the Continental Congress established the
7Continental Marines and marked the birth date of the United States Marine Corps;
8and
SJR27,1,109 Whereas, the men and women of the United States Marine Corps have proudly
10served this country in war and peace since the American Revolution; and
SJR27,2,311 Whereas, U.S. Marines have sacrificed much in their service and performed
12with valor in all engagements including, the fight to the "Halls of Montezuma" in
13Mexico City, the Battle of Bull Run in the American Civil War, the heroic action at
14Belleau Wood in World War I, the amphibious landing at Iwo Jima in World War II,
15the landing at Inchon during the Korean Conflict, the landing at Da Nang in the

1Vietnam War, the Grenada intervention to rescue Americans, the participation in
2Operation Just Cause in Panama to restore democracy, and combat in the Persian
3Gulf War to repel Iraq's invasion of Kuwait; and
SJR27,2,64 Whereas, the men and women of the United States Marine Corps have been
5described as the "best of the best" because of their proud heritage of faithful service
6with the leadership and resolve to face tomorrow's challenges; now, therefore, be it
SJR27,2,11 7Resolved by the senate, the assembly concurring, That the members of the
8Wisconsin senate commend past and present members of the United States Marine
9Corps on the 224th Birthday of the Corps, and also commend the Corps for its
10commitment to service on behalf of the people of Wisconsin and the United States;
11and, be it further
SJR27,2,13 12Resolved, That the senate chief clerk shall provide copies of this joint
13resolution to the Commandant of the Marine Corps.
