Analysis by the Legislative Reference Bureau
Current law provides for numerous types of resident and nonresident fishing
licenses. Resident licenses include an annual fishing license with a fee of $13.25, a
husband and wife annual fishing license with a fee of $23.25, and a two-day sports
fishing license with a fee of $9.25. Nonresident licenses include an annual fishing
license with a fee of $33.25, a 15-day fishing license with a fee of $19.25, and a
four-day fishing license with a fee of $14.25. Generally, if a person wants to fish for
inland waters trout or outlying waters trout and salmon, he or she must obtain a
stamp in addition to the fishing license. The inland waters trout stamp costs $7 and
the Great Lakes trout and salmon stamp costs $7.
This bill creates a resident and a nonresident 24-hour fishing license, with a
fee of $10. Under the bill, a person with the 24-hour fishing license can fish for
inland water trout and outlying waters trout and salmon without a trout stamp or
a Great Lakes trout and salmon stamp.

For further information see the state and local fiscal estimate, which will be
printed as an appendix to this bill.
