AB504,1,2 1An Act to create 118.40 (3) (e) of the statutes; relating to: allowing preference
2in admissions to certain charter schools.
Analysis by the Legislative Reference Bureau
Under current law, a school board may contract with an individual, group,
business, or governmental body to establish a charter school. Charter schools
operate with fewer constraints than traditional public schools. Under this bill, a
school board may contract for the establishment of a charter school in a facility owned
or leased by a business located in the school district. If the school board does so, the
contract may authorize the charter school to give preference in admission to any
pupil whose parent or guardian is employed by the business, regardless of the pupil's
school district of residence.
The people of the state of Wisconsin, represented in senate and assembly, do
enact as follows:
AB504, s. 1 3Section 1. 118.40 (3) (e) of the statutes is created to read:
AB504,2,24 118.40 (3) (e) A school board may contract for the establishment of a charter
5school in a facility owned or leased by a business located in the school district. If the
6school board does so, the contract may authorize the charter school to give preference
