AJR56,1,32 Whereas, Jake Rose was born on May 9, 1916, in Green Bay, Wisconsin, and
3died on October 14, 2003, in Green Bay, Wisconsin; and
AJR56,1,4 4Whereas, Mr. Rose was educated in the Green Bay Area public schools; and
AJR56,1,65 Whereas, Mr. Rose attended Northwestern University and Harvard University
6School of Business; and
AJR56,1,77 Whereas, he married Meredith Burke; and
AJR56,1,9 8Whereas, Mr. Rose served in the U.S. Navy from 1941 to 1946, retiring as a
9lieutenant commander; and
AJR56,1,11 10Whereas, Mr. Rose was chairman of Associated Bancorp from 1946 until his
11retirement in 1986; and
AJR56,1,14 12Whereas, Mr. Rose played significant roles in creating the pipeline to Lake
13Michigan for Green Bay's water supply, constructing 3 bridges across the Fox River,
14and establishing the University of Wisconsin campus in Green Bay; and

1Whereas, Mr. Rose was the head of the Green Bay School Board and the Green
2Bay Metropolitan Sewerage District Commission; and
AJR56,2,4 3Whereas, Mr. Rose was a member of the Green Bay Water Commission and the
4Brown County Regional Planning Commission; and
AJR56,2,6 5Whereas, Mr. Rose was a member of the Redevelopment Authority for 35 years
6and its chairman for 2 decades; and
AJR56,2,8 7Whereas, Mr. Rose was a member of the Salvation Army board of directors and
8treasurer of the United Fund (now the United Way); and
AJR56,2,10 9Whereas, after he retired from Associated Bancorp, Mr. Rose continued to serve
10those in his community; now, therefore, be it
AJR56,2,14 11Resolved by the assembly, the senate concurring, That the members of the
12Wisconsin legislature commend the devoted public service that John M. "Jake" Rose
13contributed to this state and his community, express their sorrow at his death, and
14extend their condolences to his family and friends; and, be it further
AJR56,2,19 15Resolved, That the assembly chief clerk shall provide copies of this joint
16resolution to Mr. Rose's wife, Meredith of Green Bay, to his sister, Mrs. Robert T.
17Meyer of Green Bay, to his son, John P. Rose of Green Bay, and to his daughters, Polly
18Rose of San Francisco, California, Alexandra Rose of Los Angeles, California, Ann
19Rose Haevers of Green Bay, and Victoria Rose of Woodbourne, New York.
