AJR82,1,1 1Relating to: the life and public service of Lawrence W. Timmerman.
AJR82,1,32 Whereas, Lawrence W. Timmerman was born on June 1, 1910, in Milwaukee,
3Wisconsin, and died on January 8, 2003; and
AJR82,1,54 Whereas, Mr. Timmerman was educated in the Milwaukee parochial grade
5schools and Marquette University High School; and
AJR82,1,76 Whereas, he earned a bachelor's degree, a master's degree in political science,
7and, subsequently, an LL.B degree from Marquette University; and
AJR82,1,98 Whereas, he married Regina Disher in 1957, who preceded him in death in June
9of 2002; and
AJR82,1,1510 Whereas, following in the footsteps of his father who served in the 1923
11Wisconsin assembly and on the Milwaukee County Board, Mr. Timmerman was first
12elected to the Wisconsin assembly in 1954, representing Milwaukee-6th, and served
13in the 1955 session, 1957 session, and part of the 1959 session before resigning to
14accept an appointment to the Milwaukee County Board to fill the vacancy caused by
15the death of his father; and

1Whereas, during his tenure in the legislature, Mr. Timmerman fought for a bill
2to establish the position of Milwaukee County executive; and
AJR82,2,43 Whereas, upon his appointment to the Milwaukee County Board in 1959, Mr.
4Timmerman held that position until his retirement in 1980; and
AJR82,2,75 Whereas, during his tenure on the Milwaukee County Board, he served as
6chairman of the board's Judiciary Committee, repeatedly urging a tougher ethics
7code regarding junkets and freebies for county supervisors; now, therefore, be it
AJR82,2,11 8Resolved by the assembly, the senate concurring, That the members of the
9Wisconsin legislature commend the devoted public service that Lawrence W.
10Timmerman contributed to this state and his community, express their sorrow at his
11death, and extend their condolences to his family and friends; and, be it further
AJR82,2,13 12Resolved, That the assembly chief clerk shall provide copies of this joint
13resolution to Mr. Timmerman's sister, Frances K. Timmerman.
