Whereas, Joseph E. Jones was born on June 29, 1914, in Antigo, Wisconsin, and
3died on May 8, 2003, in Pearson, Wisconsin; and

Whereas, Mr. Jones married Ermine Locksmith on October 11, 1941, and she
5preceded him in death on September 21, 1995; and

Whereas, Mr. Jones served his country with the U.S. Army as a staff sergeant
7during World War II and the Korean War; and

Whereas, Mr. Jones graduated from Antigo High School in 1932 and attended
9Bowlby Business College, the University of Wisconsin, and Northwest University for
10Machinists Business College; and

Whereas, Mr. Jones was first elected to the Wisconsin assembly in 1962, serving
12in the 1963 to 1971 sessions; and

Whereas, Mr. Jones served as chairperson of the Assembly Committee on
14Highways in the 1971 session, on the Legislative Council, and on the governor's
15Highway Safety Task Force; and

1Whereas, Mr. Jones served as assembly sergeant at arms during the 1977 and
21979 sessions; and

Whereas, after leaving the legislature, Mr. Jones was elected to the Langlade
4County Board in 1990; now, therefore, be it

5Resolved by the assembly, the senate concurring, That the members of the
6Wisconsin legislature commend the devoted public service that Joseph E. Jones
7contributed to this state and his community, express their sorrow at his death, and
8extend their condolences to his family and friends; and, be it further

9Resolved, That the assembly chief clerk shall provide copies of this joint
10resolution to Mr. Jones' daughters, Bobbie Mehler of Bonduel, Judy Vitton of Crivitz,
11and Kitty Cook of Green Bay; and sons, Chuck Jones of Pearson and Jeff Jones of
12Belton, Texas.
