SJR35,1,32 Whereas, William R. Moser was born on October 14, 1927, in Chicago and died
3on April 11, 2003, in Milwaukee; and
SJR35,1,54 Whereas, he graduated from St. John Cathedral High School, St. Norbert
5College, and Marquette Law School; and
SJR35,1,76 Whereas, after establishing himself in private practice as an attorney, he
7married Mary Bernadette Reding; and
SJR35,1,98 Whereas, he began a long career of public service by joining the U.S. Army in
91945, serving 2 years as a paratrooper and a criminal investigator; and
SJR35,1,1210 Whereas, William R. Moser was elected to the Wisconsin senate in 1956, quickly
11earning a reputation as a passionate statesman and an enemy of posturing and
12hypocrisy; and
SJR35,1,1513 Whereas, he became one of the youngest floor leaders in the history of the
14Wisconsin legislature when in 1961, at the age of 33, he was elected senate minority
15leader; and

1Whereas, in that role he led the fight against the adoption of the sales tax in
2Wisconsin; and
SJR35,2,63 Whereas, after leaving the senate in 1962, William Moser went on to a long
4career of further service to the people of Milwaukee County as a county court judge,
5as a circuit court judge, and finally as a judge of the District I Court of Appeals; now,
6therefore, be it
SJR35,2,9 7Resolved by the senate, the assembly concurring, That the members of the
8Wisconsin legislature salute the life and public service of William R. Moser and
9mourn the passing of this distinguished former colleague; and, be it further
SJR35,2,12 10Resolved, That the senate chief clerk shall provide copies of this joint
11resolution to William R. Moser's wife, Mary Bernadette, his son, William, and his
12daughter, Mary Magdalene Carlson.
