2the service of the Wisconsin legislature as a member of the Joint Legislative
3Council Staff.
SJR54,1,44 Whereas, Pat Coakley was born on January 21, 1940, in Canton, Illinois; and
SJR54,1,7 5Whereas, Pat left Illinois and served the Wisconsin legislature as a member of
6the Joint Legislative Council Staff, ultimately as the staff's finance officer, under 4
7executive secretaries and directors from June of 1964 to January 2, 2004; and
SJR54,1,108 Whereas, throughout 21 sessions of the Wisconsin legislature Pat gave able
9assistance to important legislative bodies such as the Joint Committee on
10Employment Relations and the Joint Committee on Legislative Organization; and
SJR54,1,1211 Whereas, Pat helped organize presession orientations for new legislators before
12numerous sessions of the Wisconsin legislature; and
SJR54,1,14 13Whereas, Pat carried the Joint Legislative Council Staff payroll system from
14the Stone Age of pencil and paper computations to the modern computer world; and

1Whereas, Pat led the Joint Legislative Council Staff to unparalleled success in
2"State Employee Combined Campaign" charitable giving by securing various 1st and
32nd place awards in total and per capita contributions for each of the years 1986 to
42002; and
SJR54,2,6 5Whereas, Pat ensured that Joint Legislative Council Staff never deposited pay
6checks prior to their effective dates; and
SJR54,2,11 7Whereas, Pat lightened the work of the Joint Legislative Council Staff through
8her interior design skills, her insightful common sense approach to the staff's daily
9concerns, her sense of humor, and her playing a pivotal role in social events at various
10venues, including Dan Field's, Sheboygan Brat Days, the Salad Bar, and the Inn on
11the Park; and
SJR54,2,1412 Whereas, Pat has contributed to the legislature and to her Legislative Council
13colleagues on both a professional and personal level that far exceeds the job
14description of a finance officer; now, therefore, be it
SJR54,2,18 15Resolved by the senate, the assembly concurring, That the members of the
16Wisconsin legislature honor, salute, and commend Pat Coakley for her 40 years of
17devoted service to the Wisconsin legislature and wish her many fruitful and
18enjoyable years in retirement; and, be it further
SJR54,2,20 19Resolved, That the senate chief clerk shall provide copies of this joint
20resolution to Pat Coakley and to her children, Allison, Kevin, and Michael.
