SR17,1,1 1Relating to: tuberous sclerosis.
SR17,1,32 Whereas, at least 2 children born each day will be affected with tuberous
3sclerosis; and
SR17,1,54 Whereas, nearly 1,000,000 people worldwide are known to have tuberous
5sclerosis; and
SR17,1,66 Whereas, tuberous sclerosis affects all races and ethnic groups equally; and
SR17,1,87 Whereas, tuberous sclerosis is caused by either an inherited autosomal
8disorder or by a spontaneous mutation; and
SR17,1,119 Whereas, when tuberous sclerosis is genetically transmitted as an autosomal
10dominant disorder, a child with a parent with the gene will have a 50% chance of
11inheriting the disease; and
SR17,1,1312 Whereas, two-thirds of the cases of tuberous sclerosis are believed to be a result
13of spontaneous mutation, although the cause of such mutations is a mystery; and
SR17,1,1514 Whereas, diagnosis takes an average of 90 days with consultation of at least 3
15specialists; and

1Whereas, tuberous sclerosis is the largest known genetic cause of epilepsy; and
SR17,2,32 Whereas, tuberous sclerosis is now the 2nd largest identifiable genetic cause
3of autism; and
SR17,2,54 Whereas, tuberous sclerosis frequently goes undiagnosed because of the
5obscurity of the disease and the mild form that the symptoms may take; and
SR17,2,96 Whereas, the Wisconsin senate as an institution and members of the Wisconsin
7senate individually are in unique positions to help raise public awareness about the
8need for increased funding for research, detection, and treatment of tuberous
9sclerosis and to support the fight against tuberous sclerosis; now, therefore, be it
SR17,2,13 10Resolved by the senate, That the members of the Wisconsin senate support
11the taking of an active role by all Americans in the fight against tuberous sclerosis
12by all means available, including early and complete clinical testing and
13investigating family histories; and, be it further
SR17,2,17 14Resolved, That the members of the Wisconsin senate recognize and applaud
15the role played by national and community organizations and health care providers
16in promoting awareness of the importance of early diagnosis, testing, and ongoing
17screening for tuberous sclerosis; and, be it further
SR17,2,20 18Resolved, That the members of the Wisconsin senate recognize that it is
19necessary in Wisconsin to raise awareness about the importance of the early
20detection of, and proper treatment for, tuberous sclerosis; and, be it further
SR17,2,24 21Resolved, That the members of the Wisconsin senate acknowledge that
22Wisconsinites as a state and Americans as a nation need to continue to consider ways
23to improve access to, and the quality of, health care services for detecting and
24treating tuberous sclerosis.
