SR23,1,4 1Relating to: memorializing Congress to pass H.R. 476, which states that the service
2of the members of the organization known as the United States Cadet Nurse
3Corps during World War II constituted active military service for purposes of
4laws administered by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs.
SR23,1,75 Whereas, in 1943 the Cadet Nurse Corps was established by the Bolton Act in
6order to address concerns that heightened demand for military nurses would cause
7a shortage of civilian nurses; and
SR23,1,118 Whereas, the U.S. Cadet Nurse Corps was a uniform service created by
9Congress during World War II as Public Law 74 to provide an essential service by
10supplying nurses for the military, federal, governmental, and essential civilian
11hospital services for the duration of the war; and
SR23,1,1412 Whereas, the members of the Cadet Nurse Corps were given full-time nursing
13assignments at military and civilian hospitals where they worked under the
14supervision of senior nurses; and

1Whereas, a needed and valuable service was provided by the Cadet Nurse Corps
2during World War II, which should be recognized at the national level in the form of
3veterans status; and
SR23,2,74 Whereas, the state of Wisconsin recognizes the strength, courage, and
5dedication of the U.S. Cadet Nurse Corps, whose members served our country during
6World War II, proudly tending to our soldiers and ensuring the health and safety of
7our country; now, therefore, be it
SR23,2,12 8Resolved by the senate, That the members of the Wisconsin senate
9memorialize Congress to pass legislation to provide that service of the members of
10the organization known as the United States Cadet Nurse Corps during World War
11II constituted active military service for the purposes of laws administered by the
12Secretary of Veterans Affairs; and, be it further
SR23,2,17 13Resolved, That the senate chief clerk shall provide a copy of this resolution to
14the governor, to each member of the congressional delegation from this state, to the
15president and vice president of the United States, to each member of the president's
16cabinet, to the secretary of the U.S. senate, and to the clerk of the U.S. house of
17representatives.
