Whereas, Beckum-Stapleton Little League is sponsoring an event at the
3Marcus Performing Center to celebrate James Beckum's 75th birthday and the 40th
4anniversary of the Beckum-Stapleton Little League; and

Whereas, James Beckum founded the Beckum-Stapleton Little League in
61964; and

Whereas, for 40 continuous years, James used his Negro League experience to
8aid 300 central city youth to play a high level of baseball; and

Whereas, our youth have developed the skills of team work, work ethic, and fair
10play in a supervised program; now, therefore, be it

11Resolved by the senate, That the Wisconsin senate declares February 21,
122004, James Beckum Day in Wisconsin; and, be it further

13Resolved, That the senate chief clerk shall transmit a copy of this resolution
14to James Beckum and to the Beckum-Stapleton Little League.
