AB633,1,3 1An Act to amend 29.173 (2) (b) and 29.193 (2) (cr) 1.; and to create 29.053 (4)
2of the statutes; relating to: establishing a season for the hunting of deer while
3using a muzzle-loading firearm.

This bill requires the Department of Natural Resources to establish an annual
deer hunting season for the hunting of deer with a muzzle-loading firearm. Under
the bill, the season must be held during the month of October, start on a Saturday,
and last nine days.

The people of the state of Wisconsin, represented in senate and assembly, do
enact as follows:
AB633, s. 1 4Section 1. 29.053 (4) of the statutes is created to read:
AB633,1,85 29.053 (4) Notwithstanding s. 29.014 (1), the department shall establish an
6annual deer hunting season for the hunting of deer with a muzzle-loading firearm.
7The season shall be held during the month of October, shall begin on a Saturday, and
8shall be 9 days long.

1Section 2. 29.173 (2) (b) of the statutes is amended to read:
AB633,2,102 29.173 (2) (b) A qualified service member holding a current resident deer
3hunting license may hunt deer of either sex with a firearm during any season open
4to hunting of deer with firearms that is established by the department. During an
5annual deer hunting season for the hunting of deer with a muzzle-loading firearm
6under s. 29.053 (4), a qualified service member holding a current resident deer
7hunting license may hunt deer of either sex only with a muzzle-loading firearm.
In
8this paragraph, "qualified service member" means a member of the armed forces who
9exhibits proof that he or she is a resident, is in active service with the armed forces
10outside this state and is on furlough or leave.
AB633, s. 3 11Section 3. 29.193 (2) (cr) 1. of the statutes is amended to read:
AB633,2,1712 29.193 (2) (cr) 1. A person holding a current resident or nonresident deer
13hunting license and a Class A or Class C permit may hunt deer of either sex with a
14firearm during any season open to hunting of deer with firearms that is established
15by the department. During an annual deer hunting season for the hunting of deer
16with a muzzle-loading firearm under s. 29.053 (4), a Class A or Class C permit
17authorizes the person to hunt deer of either sex only with a muzzle-loading firearm.
