Analysis by the Legislative Reference Bureau
Current law authorizes the director of the technical college system to allow
district boards to remit nonresident fees to a number of needy and worthy students
as long as the total number of students receiving such fee remissions in all districts
does not exceed 0.5 percent of the full-time equivalent statewide enrollment.
This bill authorizes the state director to exceed that limit in the 2005-06,
2006-07, and 2007-08 academic years in order to grant fee remissions to victims of
Hurricane Katrina.

The people of the state of Wisconsin, represented in senate and assembly, do
enact as follows:

AB805,2,44 (1) Notwithstanding section 38.24 (3) (c) 1. of the statutes, for the 2005-06,
52006-07, and 2007-08 academic years, the state director of the technical college
6system may authorize district boards to remit the fees under section 38.24 (3) (a) of

1the statutes to needy and worthy students who are victims of Hurricane Katrina
2even if the total number of students receiving remissions under section 38.24 (3) (c)
31. of the statutes exceeds 0.5 percent of the full-time equivalent statewide
4enrollment as a result.
