Under current law, the Board of Nursing (board) is allowed to establish
minimum standards for schools for professional nurses and schools for licensed
practical nurses. This bill prohibits the board from requiring that more than 75
percent of the faculty at such a school hold master's or doctoral degrees in nursing.
The people of the state of Wisconsin, represented in senate and assembly, do
enact as follows:
AB869, s. 1 2Section 1. 441.01 (3) of the statutes is amended to read:
AB869,2,23 441.01 (3) The board may establish minimum standards for schools for
4professional nurses and schools for licensed practical nurses, including all related
5clinical units and facilities, and make and provide periodic surveys and consultations
6to such schools. It The board may not require that more than 75 percent of the faculty
7at such a school hold master's or doctoral degrees in nursing. The board
may also
8establish rules to prevent unauthorized persons from practicing professional

1nursing. It The board shall approve all rules for the administration of this chapter
2in accordance with ch. 227.
