2005 - 2006 LEGISLATURE
December 19, 2005 - Introduced by Representatives Ballweg, Bies, Hahn, Hines,
Krawczyk
and Nischke. Referred to Committee on Colleges and Universities.
AB882,1,2 1An Act to amend 15.91 of the statutes; relating to: appointment of student
2members of the Board of Regents of the University of Wisconsin System.
Analysis by the Legislative Reference Bureau
Under current law, the Board of Regents of the University of Wisconsin System
(board) consists of the state superintendent of public instruction, the president or
another member of the Technical College System Board, 14 citizen members, and a
student member who is at least 18 years old. Current law prohibits the governor
from appointing a student member from the same institution in two consecutive
terms.
This bill deletes this prohibition and provides the following instead:
1. The governor may not appoint the same student member to consecutive
two-year terms.
2. The governor may not appoint a student member who is enrolled in an
institution in which the previous student member was enrolled when he or she was
appointed.
The people of the state of Wisconsin, represented in senate and assembly, do
enact as follows:
AB882, s. 1 3Section 1. 15.91 of the statutes is amended to read:
AB882,2,13 415.91 Board of regents of the University of Wisconsin System; creation.
