AJR108,1,83 Whereas, on May 5, 2006, Staff Sergeant Nathan Vacho, of Ladysmith,
4Wisconsin, a member of the United States Army Reserve assigned to the 489th Civil
5Affairs Battalion, Knoxville, Tennessee, and attached to Company B, 490th Cavalry
6Squadron, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division, United States Army,
7died as a result of wounds received when an improvised explosive device near Al
8Hillah, Iraq, struck his vehicle during combat operations in Iraq; and
AJR108,1,129 Whereas, Nathan J. Vacho was born on April 4, 1977, in Chippewa Falls,
10Wisconsin, was a 1995 graduate of Ladysmith High School, was a 4-year letter
11winner in football and wrestling, and was a member of the school newspaper staff;

AJR108,1,1513 Whereas, Staff Sergeant Nathan Vacho lived his dream of becoming a soldier
14just like his dad, John Vacho, grandfather, Tony Vacho, and great uncles, Bill Vacho,
15Paul Vacho, Emil Vacho, and Milan Vacho; and

1Whereas, Staff Sergeant Nathan Vacho began his Army career March 24, 1998,
2when he enlisted into the Army Reserves as a military firefighter, with later training
3as a health care specialist; and
AJR108,2,64 Whereas, Staff Sergeant Nathan Vacho's military training included Basic
5Combat Training, Firefighter Course, Practical Nurse Course, and the Emergency
6Medical Technician Refresher Course; and
AJR108,2,127 Whereas, Staff Sergeant Nathan Vacho's military awards and decorations
8include the Bronze Star Medal, the Purple Heart, the Meritorious Service Medal, the
9Good Conduct Medal, the Reserve Components Achievement Medal, the National
10Defense Service Medal, the Iraq Campaign Medal, the Global War on Terrorism
11Service Medal, the Armed Forces Reserve Medal with Mobilization Device, the Army
12Service Ribbon, and the Overseas Service Ribbon; and
AJR108,2,1413 Whereas, Staff Sergeant Vacho provided faithful and honorable service to the
14people of the United States as generations of his family had done before him; and
AJR108,2,1615 Whereas, Staff Sergeant Nathan Vacho was laid to rest on Tuesday, May 16,
162006; and
AJR108,2,1817 Whereas, the people of Wisconsin and the American people mourn the death of
18Staff Sergeant Nathan Vacho; now, therefore, be it
AJR108,2,22 19Resolved by the assembly, the senate concurring, That the legislature of
20the state of Wisconsin commemorates the remarkable life of Staff Sergeant Nathan
21Vacho and extends its deepest sympathies to his family, friends, and colleagues; and,
22be it further
AJR108,3,2 23Resolved, That the assembly chief clerk shall transmit a copy of this joint
24resolution to Staff Sergeant Nathan Vacho's parents, John and Carol, his daughters,

1Emma and Bayli, his sister, Ashley, and his grandparents, Anthony J. Vacho, Sr., and
