AJR109,1,63 Whereas, on June 21, 2006, Staff Sergeant Patrick Lybert, of Ladysmith,
4Wisconsin, an infantryman and member of the 1st Platoon, C Troop, 71st Cavalry
5Squadron, 10th Mountain Division, United States Army, died as a result of wounds
6received during combat in Afghanistan; and
AJR109,1,97 Whereas, Staff Sergeant Lybert graduated in 1996 from Ladysmith High
8School and also graduated from Western Technical College in La Crosse with a
9degree in criminal justice before enlisting in the Army; and
AJR109,1,1210 Whereas, Staff Sergeant Lybert excelled in athletics, especially wrestling, and
11was awarded the Outstanding Senior Boy Athlete Award from the Ladysmith
12Jaycees; and
AJR109,1,1513 Whereas, Staff Sergeant Lybert enjoyed scouting and earned an Eagle Scout
14award for rehabilitating Riverside Park's trails and building wooden benches for
15people to rest on; and

1Whereas, Staff Sergeant Lybert entered the United States Army on August 1,
22002, arrived at Fort Drum, New York, on August 5, 2003, and deployed with his unit
3to Afghanistan in February 2006; and
AJR109,2,64 Whereas, Staff Sergeant Lybert's military education included the Warrior
5Leaders course, the Combat Life Saver Course, and the Combatives Level 1 Course;
6and
AJR109,2,137 Whereas, Staff Sergeant Lybert's awards and decorations include the Bronze
8Star Medal, Purple Heart, Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal
9with one Oak Leaf Cluster, Army Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service
10Medal, Non-Commissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon, Overseas
11Service Ribbon, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, Global War
12on Terrorism Service Medal, Combat Infantryman Badge, Expert Infantryman
13Badge, and Parachutist Badge; and
AJR109,2,1514 Whereas, Staff Sergeant Lybert provided faithful and honorable service to the
15people of the state of Wisconsin and the American people; and
AJR109,2,1716 Whereas, the people of Wisconsin mourn the death of Staff Sergeant Patrick
17Lybert; and
AJR109,2,1918 Whereas, Staff Sergeant Patrick Lybert was laid to rest on Monday, July 3,
192006; now, therefore, be it
AJR109,2,23 20Resolved by the assembly, the senate concurring, That the legislature of
21the state of Wisconsin commemorates the remarkable life of Staff Sergeant Patrick
22Lybert and extends its deepest sympathies to his family, friends, and colleagues; and,
23be it further
AJR109,3,3 24Resolved, That the assembly chief clerk shall transmit a copy of this joint
25resolution to Staff Sergeant Lybert's mother and stepfather, Cheryl and Terry

1Nussberger, his father and stepmother, David and Janet Lybert, his fiancé, Carola
2Hubbard, his brothers, Stacy Lybert and Noah Nussberger, his grandparents, Robert
3and Helen Patrick, Frances Kettering, and his stepgrandfather, George Kettering.
