AJR15,1,43 Whereas, the United States of America was attacked on September 11, 2001,
4a day that will be remembered as one of the darkest in American history; and
AJR15,1,75 Whereas, the terrorists that attacked America that day murdered more than
63,000 innocent people who were doing nothing more than enjoying the inalienable
7rights of a free people; and
AJR15,1,108 Whereas, the families of those who were lost on September 11, 2001, are still
9in the agonizing process of grieving and recovery, enduring immeasurable pain from
10the attacks; and
AJR15,1,1311 Whereas, the citizens of Wisconsin rallied around those families and our
12country in the following mobilization of national resources to achieve victory in the
13War on Terror; and
AJR15,2,214 Whereas, Professor Ward L. Churchill of the University of Colorado at Boulder
15wrote an essay, "`Some People Push Back': On the Justice of Roosting Chickens,"

1related to the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, with intentionally
2inflammatory and offensive statements aimed at all Americans; and
AJR15,2,53 Whereas, Professor Churchill in his essay compares the victims of the terrorist
4attacks on September 11, 2001, to Adolph Eichmann, the man in charge of Hitler's
5plan to murder Jews during World War II; and
AJR15,2,86 Whereas, on January 31, 2005, Professor Churchill issued a statement
7clarifying that people working in the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001,
8were the "technocrats of empire" and were the equivalents of "little Eichmanns"; and
AJR15,2,109 Whereas, Professor Churchill is scheduled to give a speech on the campus of the
10University of Wisconsin-Whitewater on March 1, 2005; and
AJR15,2,1311 Whereas, Professor Churchill's essay and statements are clearly inflammatory,
12offensive, and lacking in academic foundation, rightly outraging citizens both in
13Wisconsin and across the country; and
AJR15,2,1614 Whereas, Professor Churchill's tenure is currently the subject of review by the
15University of Colorado Board of Regents and is the subject of a statement by the
16governor of Colorado calling for his dismissal; now, therefore, be it
AJR15,2,24 17Resolved by the assembly, the senate concurring, That the Wisconsin
18legislature condemns the anti-American hate speech promoted by Professor Ward
19L. Churchill; recommends strongly that the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater
20cancel Professor Churchill's speech on March 1, 2005; and requests the University
21of Wisconsin System Board of Regents to conduct a review of hiring and tenure
22procedures to determine if appropriate policies exist to prevent the hiring of and, if
23necessary, the timely dismissal of faculty failing to meet honorable academic
24standards of conduct expected by students, parents, and taxpayers; and, be it further

1Resolved, That the assembly chief clerk shall provide a copy of this joint
2resolution to the governor of Colorado, the president of the University of Wisconsin
3System, and the chancellor of the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater.
