AJR57,1,2 Relating to: proclaiming that October 5, in perpetuity, be recognized and celebrated as Robin L. Ahrens Day.

AJR57,1,3 Whereas, Robin L. Ahrens is a native daughter of the state of Wisconsin; and

AJR57,1,4 Whereas, Robin L. Ahrens was a 1970 graduate of Hudson High School; and

AJR57,1,7 Whereas, Robin L. Ahrens was a 1974 graduate of Utah State University with a bachelor of fine arts degree in education and also received a media specialist degree from James Madison University in Virginia in 1983; and

AJR57,1,10 Whereas, Robin L. Ahrens went on to dedicate herself to public service after graduation by becoming a school teacher and eventually going into law enforcement as a Special Agent for the Federal Bureau of Investigation; and

AJR57,1,13 Whereas, Robin L. Ahrens entered service as a Special Agent for the Federal Bureau of Investigation on October 14, 1984, and was later assigned to the Phoenix field office; and

AJR57,2,3 Whereas, Robin L. Ahrens served until October 5, 1985, when her life was cut tragically short while in the line of duty as she and fellow agents apprehended a suspect; and

AJR57,2,6 Whereas, Robin L. Ahrens was the first female Special Agent to be killed in the line of duty since the Federal Bureau of Investigation began accepting female agents in 1972; and

AJR57,2,8 Whereas, Robin L. Ahrens is memorialized in the Federal Bureau of Investigation's Hall of Honor; and

AJR57,2,10 Whereas, the Robin L. Ahrens FBI Building in Phoenix was dedicated in May 1986 in memory of her sacrifice; and

AJR57,2,16 Whereas, Robin L. Ahrens' classmates from Hudson High School — Class of 1970 and the distinguished teachers from Hudson High School will be honoring the 20th anniversary of her sacrifice by awarding her with the Hudson High School Distinguished Alumni Award and by establishing the "Robin L. Ahrens Memorial Scholarship Fund" at the Hudson High School Distinguished Alumni Award presentation and dinner on September 28, 2005; now, therefore, be it

AJR57,2,21 Resolved by the assembly, the senate concurring, That the members of the Wisconsin legislature proclaim that October 5, in perpetuity, be recognized and celebrated as Robin L. Ahrens Day in memory of Robin's sacrifice for her fellow citizens and in recognition of her being the first female Special Agent for the Federal Bureau of Investigation to lose her life in the line of duty.
