AJR74,1,32 Whereas, Edward G. Jackamonis was born on October 19, 1939, in New Britain,
3Connecticut, and died on January 22, 2006, in Milwaukee; and
AJR74,1,64 Whereas, Edward G. Jackamonis earned a B.A. degree with honors from
5Northeastern University, Boston, in 1962; and an M.S. degree from the University
6of Wisconsin-Madison in 1964; and
AJR74,1,87 Whereas, Edward G. Jackamonis married Barbara Bastenbeck in August 1962;
8and
AJR74,1,119 Whereas, before his election to the Wisconsin assembly, Edward G. Jackamonis
10was an instructor of political science at the University of Wisconsin-Waukesha where
11he intended to teach politics rather than getting into it; and
AJR74,1,1312 Whereas, Edward G. Jackamonis was first elected to the Wisconsin assembly
13in 1970, serving in the 1971 through 1981 sessions; and
AJR74,2,214 Whereas, before his election to leadership positions, Edward G. Jackamonis
15served on the State Affairs Committee (chairperson, 1973), Environmental Quality

1Resources (vice-chairperson, 1973), Joint Legislative Council, and the National
2Conference of State Legislatures Ad Hoc Cable Television Committee (1974); and
AJR74,2,53 Whereas, during his tenure in the legislature, Edward G. Jackamonis was
4elected speaker pro tempore (1975 session) and became known for his knowledge of
5the rules of the legislature; and
AJR74,2,76 Whereas, Mr. Jackamonis was subsequently elected speaker of the assembly for
7the 1977 through 1981 sessions; and
AJR74,2,108 Whereas, during his tenure as speaker, Edward G. Jackamonis was an efficient,
9businesslike leader of the assembly who focused on improving the internal
10operations of the assembly; and
AJR74,2,1211 Whereas, political columnist John Wyngaard termed Edward G. Jackamonis
12"one of the most effective speakers" in Wisconsin history; and
AJR74,2,1513 Whereas, as speaker, Edward G. Jackamonis streamlined assembly
14administrative and management procedures and was a fierce defender of the
15authority of the legislative branch; and
AJR74,2,2116 Whereas, after his retirement from the legislature, Mr. Jackamonis became the
17executive director of the Wisconsin Housing and Economic Development Authority
18(1983 to 1987); director of the Program Development Group of the New York State
19Assembly (1988 to 1991); deputy city director of administration for the city of
20Milwaukee (1991 to 1994); and an employee of the Milwaukee Department of Public
21Works (1994 to 1999); now, therefore, be it
AJR74,2,25 22Resolved by the assembly, the senate concurring, That the members of the
23Wisconsin legislature commend the devoted public service that Edward G.
24Jackamonis contributed to this state and his community, express their sorrow at his
25death, and extend their condolences to his family and friends; and, be it further

1Resolved, That the assembly chief clerk shall provide copies of this joint
2resolution to Mr. Jackamonis' wife, Barbara, his daughter, April Sutrick, his son,
3Jason, and his sister, Constance Vogell.
