AJR79,1,1 1Relating to: the life and military service of Sergeant Andy A. Stevens.
AJR79,1,42 Whereas, Sergeant Andy A. Stevens was born August 18, 1976, in Tomah,
3Wisconsin, and died on December 1, 2005, from an improvised explosive device while
4conducting combat operations near Fallujah, Iraq; and
AJR79,1,75 Whereas, Sergeant Stevens graduated from Tomah High School in 1995, where
6he had been a confident and determined, hard-working student, participating in
7football, basketball, and concert choir; and
AJR79,1,98 Whereas, Sergeant Stevens joined the United States Marines in June 1995, as
9he had planned to do since early childhood; and
AJR79,1,1110 Whereas, Sergeant Stevens was deployed as a scout sniper with his unit to Iraq
11in July 2005, to help secure the region before Iraqi elections; and
AJR79,1,1512 Whereas, Sergeant Stevens served with honor in the 2nd Battalion, 7th Marine
13Regiment, 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force, based in Twentynine
14Palms, California, which during Operation Iraqi Freedom was attached to the 2nd
15Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force (Forward); and

1Whereas, Sergeant Stevens had been awarded military honors including the
2War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, the War on Terrorism Service Medal, the
3Combat Action Ribbon, 2 Marine Corps Good Conduct Medals, the Meritorious Unit
4Commendation, the Navy Unit Commendation, the Korean Defense Service Medal,
52 National Defense Service Medals, and 5 Sea Service Deployment Ribbons; and
AJR79,2,76 Whereas, Sergeant Stevens and 9 other Marines were inside an abandoned
7flour factory being used as a patrol base and died when the IED detonated; and
AJR79,2,98 Whereas, Sergeant Stevens was awarded the Purple Heart posthumously; now,
9therefore, be it
AJR79,2,13 10Resolved by the assembly, the senate concurring, That the members of the
11Wisconsin legislature honor United States Marine Sergeant Andy A. Stevens for his
12dedicated service to his country and express their heartfelt condolences to his family;
13and, be it further
AJR79,2,16 14Resolved, That the assembly chief clerk shall provide a copy of this joint
15resolution to Sergeant Stevens' father, Allen Stevens, of Tomah; his mother, Kaye
16Olson, of Eau Claire; and his sister, Amy Pelle, of Rice Lake.
