AR44,1,2 1Relating to: honoring the Wisconsin National Guard 32nd Military Police
2Company.
AR44,1,53 Whereas, the Wisconsin National Guard 32nd Military Police Company was
4ordered to active duty on March 15, 2003, in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and
5deployed to southwest Asia in early May; and
AR44,1,76 Whereas, the unit's mission was to provide security in and around Baghdad and
7train the new civilian Iraqi police force; and
AR44,1,108 Whereas, the 32nd Military Police Company's 158 soldiers were expected to
9return home in May 2004 but their service was extended beyond one year to July
102004; and
AR44,1,1411 Whereas, the soldiers of the 32nd Military Police Company served our country
12and our state with dignity, with bravery, and with compassion evidenced by their
13work and support for Iraqi children at the Sisters of Charity Orphanage of Baghdad;

1Whereas, the 32nd Military Police Company suffered more injuries from hostile
2action than any Wisconsin National Guard unit since World War II; and
AR44,2,63 Whereas, the soldiers of the 32nd Military Police Company were awarded 19
4Bronze Star Medals and 35 Purple Heart Medals during their brave and heroic
5service. One member of the unit, Specialist Michelle Witmer, gave her life for her
6unit and her country; and
AR44,2,107 Whereas, the 32nd Military Police Company was awarded the Valorous Unit
8Award for "extraordinary heroism in action against an armed enemy of the United
9States." The award recognizes heroism by a whole unit equal to that for which an
10individual would receive the prestigious Silver Star Medal; and
AR44,2,1211 Whereas, the 32nd Military Police Company is the first Wisconsin Guard unit
12to receive the award in the history of the Wisconsin National Guard; and
AR44,2,1413 Whereas, the state of Wisconsin is forever grateful to the soldiers of the 32nd
14Military Police Company for their service; now, therefore, be it
AR44,2,17 15Resolved by the assembly, That the members of the Wisconsin assembly
16honor the Wisconsin National Guard 32nd Military Police Company for its
17dedication, bravery, valor, and service to our country and our state; and, be it further
AR44,2,20 18Resolved, That the assembly chief clerk shall provide copies of this joint
19resolution to the soldiers of the Wisconsin National Guard 32nd Military Police
20Company.
