SB555,1,3 An Act to amend 281.61 (5) of the statutes; relating to: the deadline for applying for the Safe Drinking Water Loan Program (suggested as remedial legislation by the Department of Natural Resources).

Analysis by the Legislative Reference Bureau

Currently, under the Safe Drinking Water Loan Program, this state provides loans to local governmental units for projects for the construction or modification of public water systems. Current law requires a local governmental unit to submit an application for the program no later than April 29 to obtain a loan in the following fiscal year. This bill changes the last day for submitting an application for the Safe Drinking Water Loan Program to April 30.

The people of the state of Wisconsin, represented in senate and assembly, do enact as follows:

Law Revision Committee prefatory note: This bill is a remedial legislation proposal, requested by the Department of Natural Resources and introduced by the Law Revision Committee under s. 13.83 (1) (c) 4., stats. After careful consideration of the various provisions of the bill, the Law Revision Committee has determined that this bill makes minor substantive changes in the statutes, and that these changes are desirable as a matter of public policy.

SB555, s. 1 Section 1. 281.61 (5) of the statutes is amended to read:

SB555,2,10 281.61 (5) Application. After the department approves a local governmental unit's engineering report submitted under sub. (4), the local governmental unit shall submit an application for safe drinking water financial assistance to the department. The applicant shall submit the application on or before the April 30 preceding the beginning of the fiscal year in which the applicant wishes to receive the financial assistance. The application shall be in the form and include the information required by the department and the department of administration and shall include plans and specifications that are approvable by the department under this section. An applicant may not submit more than one application per project per year.
