SJR27,1,53 Whereas, soon after the attack on Pearl Harbor, Wisconsin began planning for
4the return to civilian life of all men and women who were to serve in the armed forces;
5and
SJR27,1,96 Whereas, not knowing how long the war would last but that one day those who
7served would come home and that its people would be prepared to extend every
8possible assistance to restore them to their proper place in a grateful and peaceful
9society; and
SJR27,1,1210 Whereas, in 1943, Wisconsin legislation created the Veterans' Recognition
11Board to provide medical, hospital, education, and economic aid to returning
12Wisconsin veterans of World War II and their dependents; and
SJR27,2,213 Whereas, during the 1945 legislative session that department and several
14other state departments concerned with veterans affairs were integrated into a
15single department-the Wisconsin Department of Veterans Affairs-combining into

1one department the powers, duties, and functions previously assigned to the
2separate agencies; and
SJR27,2,43 Whereas, during the 1945 legislative session a law enacted made it mandatory
4for each county board to appoint a county veterans service officer; and
SJR27,2,95 Whereas, similar to the period during and immediately following the Second
6World War, the State of Wisconsin has seen fit to provide assistance to all returning
7veterans and families, with the current initiative entitled "Mission: Welcome Home,"
8a program to reintegrate our Wisconsin Iraqi Freedom and Enduring Freedom
9veterans back to Wisconsin; and
SJR27,2,1510 Whereas, over the past 60 years, under seven Secretaries of Veterans Affairs,
11the Wisconsin Department of Veterans Affairs has not wavered in its support to
12Wisconsin veterans, from World War II to the present, and has continued to maintain
13the most comprehensive array of state veterans benefits of any state, while also
14working to ensure Wisconsin veterans learn about and receive the benefits and
15services they have rightfully earned; now therefore, be it
SJR27,2,18 16Resolved by the senate, the assembly concurring, That the Wisconsin
17Department of Veterans Affairs is congratulated on its 60 years of service to
18Wisconsin veterans; and, be it further
SJR27,2,20 19Resolved, That the senate chief clerk shall transmit a copy of this joint
20resolution to the Secretary of Veterans Affairs.
