SJR38,1,1 1Relating to: the life and military service of Specialist Charles A. Kaufman.
SJR38,1,42 Whereas, Specialist Charles A. Kaufman, of Fairchild, Wisconsin, was born on
3October 19, 1984, and died on June 26, 2005, after an improvised explosive device
4detonated while he was returning from a mission in Baghdad, Iraq; and
SJR38,1,75 Whereas, Spc. Kaufman served with honor and distinction as a member of
6Charlie Company, 1st Battalion, 128th Infantry, part of the "Red Arrow" Brigade,
7stationed in Samarra, Iraq, as a part of Operation Iraqi Freedom; and
SJR38,1,108 Whereas, he graduated from Osseo-Fairchild High School in 2003, and spent
9the following year at Chippewa Valley Technical College in Neillsville, Wisconsin;
10and
SJR38,1,1311 Whereas, he valued time with his family — his parents Mark and Celeste, his
12sister Samantha, his grandparents, and his cousin Kelly, whom he followed into the
13Wisconsin National Guard; and

1Whereas, Spc. Kaufman was devoted to protecting his country, evidenced by his
2steadfast determination to serve in the Iraqi War, even after he fell 15 feet from a tree
3and broke several ribs, punctured his lung, and lost his spleen; and
SJR38,2,64 Whereas, Spc. Kaufman believed in the worthy cause of bringing freedom to the
5Iraqi people, but most importantly to the children of Iraq, whose smiles and cheers
6inspired him to do his job well; and
SJR38,2,107 Whereas, he was passionate about driving, from his first time behind the wheel
8of a riding mower at the age of 7, to countless rides driving trucks, tractors, boats,
9ATVs, and motorcycles, to carrying out his mission driving the Humvee in which he
10lost his life; and
SJR38,2,1311 Whereas, he had a competitive spirit, whether shooting pool or participating in
12archery contests at the Fairchild Rod-N-Gun, where he won several archery
13trophies through the years; and
SJR38,2,1614 Whereas, Spc. Kaufman will always be remembered for his patriotism, his love
15for his family and friends, and his trademark grin that showed his unbridled
16kindness and generosity towards others; now, therefore, be it
SJR38,2,20 17Resolved by the senate, the assembly concurring, That the members of the
18Wisconsin legislature, on behalf of a grateful state, honor Specialist Charles A.
19Kaufman for his noble service to our country and extend their condolences to his
20family and friends; and, be it further
SJR38,3,2 21Resolved, That the senate chief clerk shall provide copies of this joint
22resolution to Specialist Kaufman's parents, Mark and Celeste Kaufman, to his sister,
23Samantha Kaufman, to his grandparents, Geraldine Kaufman and Harold and

1Christina Frazee, to his great grandmother, Doloris DeMoss, and to his cousin, Kelly
2Kaufman.
